Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui |Pop Concert by Long String Music Development Centre
Description
A classic in his own right, Yin Kwong, also known as the 'Temple Street Song King', has been in the entertainment industry for over 60 years. His humorous and satirical Cantonese pop songs perfectly reflect the local culture of Hong Kong in the 70s and 80s. The lyrics, written by Yin Kwong himself, are witty, funny, and well-received by audiences from all walks of life in Hong Kong.
In 2006, Yin Kwong joined 'Circle Star Entertainment' to continue his singing career. He released a 'New Song + Greatest Hits' album in the same year, which combined humor, wit, realism, and excellent vocals, and it sold very well. Over the years, Yin Kwong has performed at various venues in Hong Kong, including the Hong Kong Coliseum, Hong Kong Cultural Centre, and Hong Kong Polytechnic University Jockey Club, as well as venues across Kowloon and the New Territories. Overseas, his songs have reached audiences as far as the United States, Canada, Australia, and Vietnam.
As a local icon and Cult figure in Hong Kong, Yin Kwong's audience mostly consisted of older working-class individuals. However, in 2002, he released a rap song called 'Never Mind the Father', which became a huge hit with the younger generation, becoming one of the most representative works of his singing career. Subsequent rap songs like 'Mr. One', 'Your Boss', 'Trend God', and 'Great' also went viral online, gaining widespread popularity among netizens. In 2017, Yin Kwong further demonstrated his versatility and ability to break generational barriers by winning the Best Actor and Best Film awards at the '4th Microfilm Creative Support Program' for his role in the micro-film 'Folding Stool Killer'.
After joining 'Circle Star', Yin Kwong held several concerts featuring songs from the golden age of Cantonese music and Cantonese opera. In November 2023, he performed at the Hong Kong Coliseum for the third time. Keeping up with the times, he connected with AI technology and collaborated with trendy young YouTubers, earning the nickname 'Kwong B'. Yin Kwong's new song, 'Dear Myself', is a sentimental piece where he duets with 'AI Yin Kwong', reflecting on his lifelong career in entertainment. The song received high praise, with listeners commending its touching melody and sincere performance. It moved not just his fans but also celebrities like Sammi Cheng, Eason Chan, Hins Cheung, and Nick Cheung, who all expressed their admiration. At nearly 80 years old, Yin Kwong made it to the top 5 of the 'Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentation' by Commercial Radio Hong Kong in the category of 'My Favorite Male Singer' and the top 10 in the category of 'My Favorite Song'. Kwong B's popularity is unmatched at the moment.
In 2025, he released another touching song called 'Father', with actor Nick Cheung starring in the music video, achieving both critical acclaim and popular success.
In 2026, Yin Kwong is back with another concert in May at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, taking the audience on a journey from Cantonese opera to the hilarious 'Hollywood'. From the playful 'Never Mind the Father' to the tear-jerking 'Dear Myself', Yin Kwong continues to break generational barriers with his innovative spirit, continuously writing the unique 'music industry myth' of Hong Kong's music scene.
